15-April-2006  |  FILED: Site Updates, Theme: Dapit Hapon

As promised, you can now download the Photoshop PSD source file and a JPEG without the “objects” for easier modification. The download link is right under the Dapit Hapon Theme download. I thought of putting it there since there are others who link directly to that page. Anyway, if you’re lazy, you can download it here instead. :)
I really am sorry for the delay. I know I promised it yesterday, but I am Catholic :) It was Good Friday yesterday, and I thought of taking a break from blogging and work. Anyway, I know everybody practically celebrates Easter, and since I’m not sure if I’ll be going online tomorrow, I’d like to greet everybody HAPPY EASTER in advance!!!

Many choose to hire a web page design group to do their site, or even just a single web designer, since most people may take a long time to learn important web site design concepts; whether or not you do it yourself, web site design
is very important nowadays.

THESSA: Mali ata pinaglagyan mo ng comment :D You’ve just asked for a recommendation on a site that offers support for WORDPRESS users. And if anybody here reads your comment, big chance you’ll get the same answer: WORDPRESS.

If you want to get into blogging “seriously”, I’d suggest you get your own hosting account and domain name, and then install Wordpress. Wordpress will give you absolute control on your blog, your only limit are your bandwidth and your space on the server. There are a lot of local companies offering hosting as low Php75 a month already, so you don’t need to pay via credit card. Try Ploghost.Com, I know the owner and he’s reliable.

Anyway, just to be fair, I’ll give you the pros and cons of each of your choices. I’ve already tried them all, to be honest (everybody, pls don’t look my nick up on these sites HAHAHA):

    1. Livejournal : I don’t like their templates :P Can you even edit your template on a free account? But it’s free. I haven’t tried customizing it though.

    2. Blogger / Blogspot : You can actually do most of the things you want here, BUT you can never be sure if they’ll one day decide to deactivate your account. Somebody will just have to tag you with “report for abuse,” and you’re blog’s suspended. (I know a lot of people who had those two instances happen to them).

    3. I.ph : I know the guys who run it, but no offense (sorry guys, if you’re reading this), their server is SO SLOW. If you’re willing to wait for eternity to have your entry posted or to view your blog, go ahead :D In fairness, they have a lot of features.

    4. WordPress : The downside is that you’ll have to get your own hosting and domain to really take advantage of its features. WordPress.Com doesn’t really do much justice (sorry, Matt hehehe). The one with free hosting doesn’t really allow you to customize your template, except for choosing from their collection.

Anybody else out there willing to help me make this girl a WordPress convert? :D

  4. Gail Says:

DANA: anytime :) Just leave a message if you need anything else, because most often than not, other people have the same question as you do :) Happy Easter!

    Hi Gail…

I just want to congratulate you for the wonderful theme you’ve created. I’ve been an avid fan of “kutitots” since last year.

I’m currently using your theme to my blog site. I’m still setting all things up with a few plugins that will fit my needs. I’m glad you’ve shared the PSD files. Now, everyone has the chance to customize it more.

Regarding the inquiry of Thessa, I recommend using WordPress since there are many plugins available over the web. Easy to use and very efficient. Gail is right. Better have your own hosting account and you must have at least an aptitude for PHP and SQL.

    Have fun! :)

hello again. me again. thanks for the suggestion. right now im just going to try i.ph first. if i got a new pc (we’re actually planning to buy one and it’s coming soon already hehe) maybe ill be converting to wordpress. and be ready coz ill be bombarding you with questions about it! Ü

  7. Lily Says:

although I’m not using wordpress anymore because I’m using my own scripted blog (and still upgrading though) Wordpress is THE BEST blog tool compare this with Greymatter and Movabletype… Wordpress rocks!

  8. Archie Says:

    @ Thessa

i.ph is cool and not bad afterall but if you’re knowledgeable enough in technical aspects of developing a website (HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and using custom mods) + willing to pay for a webhosting account, I know a very affordable webhost that you might consider. In fact, I think, Gail and I are both clients of this webhosting company.

Try browsing on marvinsweb.net and check their rates. All prices are very reasonable (starting @ P69/month for a 50MB account) and their tech support is very swift. The owner is actually from Tondo but recently, he moved their office in Malate.

There are many scripts you can install and use if you want to maximize your site’s funtionality. You can even install forumboards, blogs, galleries and many other Content Management System (CMS) softwares.

    I have another quick question.

How can I increase the size of the comment box?

    Thanks :)

  10. Gail Says:

DANA: sorry for the late response. Been really busy with the new themes I’ll be releasing soon :) I’ll post a comprehensive tutorial on the comment box as soon as I’m free, but for a quick overview… Open up comments.php, then look for the textarea with the name “comment”. Change the “cols” value to the size you want :)

  11. Dana Says:

    Thank you Gail… it worked.

Give us a clue about the new theme… a hint or somthing… lol :D
